June is Effective Communications Month

""

Say What?? June is Effective Communications Month! The child welfare system is full of partners of different ages, cultures and levels of expertise and knowledge of the system. Additionally, do not forget the love of using acronyms. What is more, the work can be very emotional; your non-verbal communication, active listening skills and tone can go a long way when the topics are intense. There are many opportunities to build and improve upon our communication skills as a system and as individuals.

Look at the System of Care Infrastructure Communication Toolkit from the Child Welfare Information Gateway to help you assess and make improvements within your local area’s communication strategy.

The QPI Training, Developing Respectful Partnerships through Customer Service, focuses on developing quality customer service in child welfare, including focusing on the importance of communication with families and other system partners. Clear communication is essential to excellent customer service. While the function of child welfare is much different from retail and service sectors, there is much to learn from these customer service leaders on how to engage customers and establish a reputation of excellence.
